The United Nations Secretary-General, Ban Ki-moon, has called on the Government of Sudan to facilitate humanitarian operations in South Kordofan and the Blue Nile states after the UN Mission in Sudan (UNMIS) has ended in these two regions on 9 July.

UN Deputy Spokesman, Farhan Haq, said on Thursday that the Secretary-General is mindful that unless the two parties decide otherwise, the 10,000-strong UNMIS will have to cease operations on 9 July, when south Sudan becomes independent.
